Unused flyover near Cyberjaya collapses, no one hurt

PETALING JAYA: A flyover near Cyberjaya collapsed Thursday afternoon but no one was injured in the incident as the road has not been in use since December.
It is learnt that the collapsed flyover, an exit from the Elite Highway (KM P2.4) towards the Selangor Science Park 2, is managed and owned by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and the road below it is managed by PLUS Malaysia Berhad.
According to reports on social media, the flyover collapsed around 12.40pm.
A main pipe running along the flyover also broke in the incident, sending thousands of litres of water gushing out.
PKNS is expected to release a statement on the collapse soon.
On Dec 9, the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) had diverted traffic at KM P2.4, at the interchange between the Putrajaya toll plaza and Putrajaya/Cyberjaya, on the Lingkaran Putrajaya stretch, to facilitate bridge inspection works.

60,000 Petition for Puchong Schools

PUTRAJAYA: Calls for the approval of Catholic High School 2 and SJK(C) Yak Chee in Puchong are gathering momentum after campaigners submitted 60,000 petition cards to the Education Ministry here. Catholic High School 2 Development Committee chairperson Chong Fat Leong said the group had previously met separately with Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib Razak and his deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin but their appeals had fallen on deaf ears. “That’s why we launched a signature campaign to show Tan Sri Muhyiddin (who is also Education Minister) that the public is demanding for the schools,” said Chong.Chong, along with 31 other representatives from Catholic High School, SJK(C) Han Ming, SJK(C) Sin Ming, and SJK(C) Yak Chee demonstrated outside the ministry before handing over the cards. They had approached Muhyiddin on Dec 24 last year while they also met Najib on Feb 17 to raise their concerns. There are currently 3,000 students in Catholic High School, which is situated in Petaling Jaya, and about 1,000 of its students live in Puchong. Chong said students from Puchong have to wake up as early as 5am and may only arrive home at 7pm due to the long distance of commuting. Due to the limited space available in Catholic High School, approximately 1,000 applications from parents have to be rejected as well each year. He also said the ball is now in the federal government’s court as the state government had already allocated land for the school. “The state government had already alienated a piece of land for the school, right now we are only waiting for the federal government’s approval,” said Chong.

Proposed Puchong Utama Interchange - Construction in April-May this year

Subang Jaya City Council proposed building a highway flyover linking two places, Puchong Utama in the east and Taman Maju Jaya in the west.
The highway flyover’s tender is expected to start in next month and construction in April-May this year, and project would take two years for completion.

Link from Teluk Panglima Garang to Pulau Indah to be ready in September

AS ITS name suggests, the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) is a highway that connects cities in the southern part of the Klang Valley. Upon completion, the highway will span 51.7km from Kajang to Westport in Port Klang, providing access to KLIA, Putrajaya, Shah Alam, Cyberjaya, Klang, Banting, Teluk Panglima Garang, and Pulau Indah. At the moment, about 90% of the highway is completed, stretching from Universiti Tenaga Nasional in Kajang to Teluk Panglima Garang.
SKVE Holdings Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Teoh Jui Min said the company was currently constructing the third section of the highway.
“Section 3 covers the rest of the expressway from Teluk Panglima Garang to Pulau Indah. It is now 80% complete and we are targeting to open this section by the third quarter of the year,” he said.
Constructed in 2000 by the Federal Government, the highway was later taken over by SKVE Holdings Sdn Bhd. It recorded a daily traffic of 30,000 vehicles on the tolled section and 100,000 vehicles on the 7.9km non-tolled stretch. “Not many motorists are aware of the location of SKVE, but we are seeing a gradual increase in traffic volume,” Teoh said. He pointed out that SKVE had shortened the travel time for those travelling between Shah Alam and Putrajaya, Banting and KLIA, Banting and Putrajaya, among others. “Motorists can enjoy smooth traffic on our suburban highway, unlike other highways that are heavily congested. “SKVE is also very scenic as it is flanked by plantations, ponds and rivers,” he said. Since SKVE was built, small pockets of development have been planned along the highway. Teoh said restaurants in Banting also saw an increase in business, from 25% on weekdays to 40% on weekends.
SKVE can be accessed from the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), after the Serdang interchange for motorists heading towards Cyberjaya and Putrajaya. The highway is also linked to the Elite Highway at Saujana Putra Interchange, as well as the Kajang Seremban Highway (Lekas) and Kajang Silk Highway in Kajang. In future, SKVE will be connected to the West Coast Expressway (WCE) at Tanjung Dua Belas exit. The construction of this interchange and toll plaza have been deferred pending the opening of WCE. There are now three toll plazas at SKVE, namely Ayer Hitam, Saujana Putra and Teluk Panglima Garang. The toll rates are RM1.90 for Class 1 vehicles from Ayer Hitam to Saujana Putra or RM3.70 from Ayer Hitam to Teluk Panglima Garang.
Teoh said there would be another toll plaza in Pulau Indah in future. As for the exit at Pulau Carey, he said the construction was currently deferred. “We will only build the interchange should there be any development in Pulau Carey in future,” Teoh said. Among the facilities and services provided by SKVE are rest and recreation areas at Tanjung Dua Belas (both east-bound and west-bound) and half-hourly patrols. Its traffic monitoring centre is located at the Ayer Hitam toll plaza.
