New interchange to ease Puchong traffic congestion

MOTORISTS can now use the elevated interchange from the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) to Jalan Utama 2, Puchong Utama. The road project, which aimed at easing congestion at the Puchong Perdana interchange and Puchong Utama/Dengkil interchanges, was opened to motorists on Saturday.
Southbound motorists can also make a right turn into Jalan Utama 2 and from Jalan Utama 2 onto the LDP.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who opened the road last Friday said the “semi-diamond” elevated interchange that connects Taman Puchong Utama (east) to Taman Perindustrian Puchong Utama and Taman Maju Jaya (west), would benefit road users in Puchong Batu 14, Puchong Utama and Puchong Perdana. The project cost of RM28,997,559 was borne by MPSJ and 11 developers. The developers were required under Section 8 of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), to contribute to the infrastructure work. The state government loaned the council RM18mil for the project. The 1.5km elevated interchange was approved by the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) and works began on Feb 17, 2014 and was completed on Aug 24.
MPSJ Engineering Department deputy director Mohd Haizi Harun said approximately 68,000 road users used the highway daily.

New services available at Kelana Jaya and Ampang

Finishing touches: Workers completing their work at the LRT track near the Putra Heights station along the Kelana Jaya line in Petaling Jaya

PETALING JAYA: The public transport network in Klang Valley is expected to enter a new phase with the opening of the extension to the two LRT lines – Kelana Jaya and Ampang – on Thursday.
Passengers can start taking the trains once the services are operational in the morning.
The launch will be carried out by the Prime Minister in the afternoon.
The launch of the extension to the two lines, which will serve dense residential areas such as Puchong, Subang Jaya, Ara Damansara and USJ, will benefit hundreds of thousands of commuters and form an important link to the entire network that will also see the construction and completion of three MRT lines and another LRT 3.
The Kelana Jaya extension, which will run for 17km with 12 new stations from Lembah Subang to Putra Heights, will see an additional 170,000 passengers daily while that for Ampang will see an extra 130,000 commuters every day.
In a statement yesterday, Prasarana Rail and Infrastructure Projects Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Zohari Sulaiman said it had received support letters from various agencies for its stations under the Kelana Jaya line, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).
“The One Stop Centre of MPSJ has accepted, checked and acknowledged the submission, including the certificate of completion and compliance (CCC) issued by the architects.
“For the remaining three Ampang line stations, we have also received support letters from various agencies, including MPSJ, Syabas, TNB, IWK and the Fire and Rescue Services Department,” he said.
“Once the documents are submitted and acknowledged, the submission process is considered complete,” he said, adding that operations for the extension would start from Thursday as scheduled.
Zohari said it had already created more than 2,200 parking bays along the Kelana Jaya Line Extension as well as finalised the routes of the feeder buses.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the newly-extended lines would encourage more Malaysians to use public transport.
“Well done, I’ve raised my own key performance index (KPI) from 470,000 to 500,000 ridership. The new extension will motivate more people to use public transport,” he said, adding that bus and taxi services would also be enhanced to help connect public to their homes and train stations.
“The railway lines are now fully utilised. We have trains travelling to Klang from Kuala Lumpur every 15 minutes and we are aiming to improve this to seven minutes.”

Contraflow Traffic System @ Puchong Batu 14

Puchong Utama Interchange - Update 25/5/2014

Proposed Puchong Utama Interchange - Construction in April-May this year

Subang Jaya City Council proposed building a highway flyover linking two places, Puchong Utama in the east and Taman Maju Jaya in the west.
The highway flyover’s tender is expected to start in next month and construction in April-May this year, and project would take two years for completion.

Link from Teluk Panglima Garang to Pulau Indah to be ready in September

AS ITS name suggests, the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) is a highway that connects cities in the southern part of the Klang Valley. Upon completion, the highway will span 51.7km from Kajang to Westport in Port Klang, providing access to KLIA, Putrajaya, Shah Alam, Cyberjaya, Klang, Banting, Teluk Panglima Garang, and Pulau Indah. At the moment, about 90% of the highway is completed, stretching from Universiti Tenaga Nasional in Kajang to Teluk Panglima Garang.
SKVE Holdings Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Teoh Jui Min said the company was currently constructing the third section of the highway.
“Section 3 covers the rest of the expressway from Teluk Panglima Garang to Pulau Indah. It is now 80% complete and we are targeting to open this section by the third quarter of the year,” he said.
Constructed in 2000 by the Federal Government, the highway was later taken over by SKVE Holdings Sdn Bhd. It recorded a daily traffic of 30,000 vehicles on the tolled section and 100,000 vehicles on the 7.9km non-tolled stretch. “Not many motorists are aware of the location of SKVE, but we are seeing a gradual increase in traffic volume,” Teoh said. He pointed out that SKVE had shortened the travel time for those travelling between Shah Alam and Putrajaya, Banting and KLIA, Banting and Putrajaya, among others. “Motorists can enjoy smooth traffic on our suburban highway, unlike other highways that are heavily congested. “SKVE is also very scenic as it is flanked by plantations, ponds and rivers,” he said. Since SKVE was built, small pockets of development have been planned along the highway. Teoh said restaurants in Banting also saw an increase in business, from 25% on weekdays to 40% on weekends.
SKVE can be accessed from the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), after the Serdang interchange for motorists heading towards Cyberjaya and Putrajaya. The highway is also linked to the Elite Highway at Saujana Putra Interchange, as well as the Kajang Seremban Highway (Lekas) and Kajang Silk Highway in Kajang. In future, SKVE will be connected to the West Coast Expressway (WCE) at Tanjung Dua Belas exit. The construction of this interchange and toll plaza have been deferred pending the opening of WCE. There are now three toll plazas at SKVE, namely Ayer Hitam, Saujana Putra and Teluk Panglima Garang. The toll rates are RM1.90 for Class 1 vehicles from Ayer Hitam to Saujana Putra or RM3.70 from Ayer Hitam to Teluk Panglima Garang.
Teoh said there would be another toll plaza in Pulau Indah in future. As for the exit at Pulau Carey, he said the construction was currently deferred. “We will only build the interchange should there be any development in Pulau Carey in future,” Teoh said. Among the facilities and services provided by SKVE are rest and recreation areas at Tanjung Dua Belas (both east-bound and west-bound) and half-hourly patrols. Its traffic monitoring centre is located at the Ayer Hitam toll plaza.

Collapsed bridge in Puchong put motorists in danger

IT was a rocky year for road users this year with collapsed roads and bridges in Semenyih, Hulu Langat and Sepang.
In Puchong, a bridge along Jalan Pulau Meranti near Masjid Meranti that links Kampung Pulau Meranti to Cyberjaya, Putrajaya and Puchong has partially collapsed, cutting off a key access road for thousands of residents in the area.
Many motorists use the route to avoid paying toll for a highway.
The hole was estimated to be around 3.5m wide and 3m deep.
Residents said numerous complaints to the village chief about tell-tale cracks and small holes found along the bridge was made as far back as six months ago.
Residents said they complained to the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) five months before the incident, when they noticed erosion on the river bank where the bridge was sitting on.
The departments required six months to investigate the collapse and carry out repair works.
A temporary bridge was installed.
To make matters worse, an erosion occurred in Jalan Desaria, Puchong, not far from Jalan Pulau Meranti, a week after the bridge had collapsed.
Sungai Rasau overflowed during Hari Raya Haji on Nov 5, causing water levels to rise to knee-high.
Within 10 minutes, Jalan Desaria was submerged.
Taman Kipark management office had written a letter to the Sepang Municipal Council and DID about the erosion.
However, DID cited a lack of funds as the reason for not fixing the river’s embankment.
Meanwhile in Hulu Langat, a section of Jalan Sungai Tekali was closed after one of its lanes caved in.
This happened less than two weeks after the landslide at the Ampang Look Out Point, which was less than 10km away.
The road, used as an alternative route to Semenyih, has caved 100m to 150m in depth.
A few days later, a road collapsed near the Semenyih dam following a minor landslide in Jalan Kechau.
Five people, who were travelling along the road when the incident occurred, narrowly escaped death.

LRT extension to be ready by 2015

KUALA LUMPUR: The light rail transit extension project will only be ready in 2015.

Syarikat Prasarana Negara Bhd group managing director, Datuk Shahril Mokhtar, said it was originally scheduled to be completed in 2014, but faced a setback due to land acquisition issues in Puchong.
"The project is now 30 per cent completed, with main works carried out including relocation of utilities, construction of rail guideway and box girder (beam). Despite this, we try to manage the cost within the budget," he said.
The disputed land is located within the approved alignment at Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) next to SRJK (T) Castlefield and squatter houses there.
The RM7 billion project commenced early this year with the Kelana Jaya line extension.
On the company's plan, Shahril said a major corporate restructuring within the Prasarana top management would take place next month. He, however, did not divulge the details.

New interchange along LDP

PUCHONG: A new interchange to ease worsening traffic congestion from the Puchong Barat Toll towards Klang will be opened along the Damansara-Puchong Highway (LDP) from 12am this Saturday ( Dec 22).
This new traffic management system, called the Subang Jaya South Interchange, consists of a 500m elevated bridge built alongside the existing highway.
Previously, there was no direct route towards Klang and all motorists hadto go through Subang Jaya, thus causing jams along the LDP.
“Before this there were only three lanes from Klang to the toll plaza but none going the other direction.
“Now we added on three more lanes on the other side of the bridge, heading towards Klang,” said MCT Consortium Bhd head of architecture department Shawn Chong.
Only two lanes will be open this Saturday. It is scheduled to be fully opened in February.
Construction of the RM60 million bridge started in October last year.
Chong urged motorists heading towards Subang Jaya to keep left while those going to Klang, Shah Alam and Hicom should stay right onto the new interchange.
“We will also try our best to create awareness by hanging bunting on pedestrian bridges and banners on streetlight posts along the LDP highway before the interchange,” he said.
Motorists passing through the toll plaza will also be given flyers informing them of the change.
The new interchange will also cater to the upcoming 77 acres mixed commercial development called One City which will be fully completed in 2018. .
The MCT development will include office blocks, a shopping mall and retail shops.
Joining him at the press conference was Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd head of engineering Francisco Anthony, who explained that the cost of this bridge is funded by MCT as part of the infrastructure works to compliment their new development.
